Ziv Peleg Ben-Ze`ev
These works are the conclusion of the last six years, in which, I have had an enduring contact for a long period, with a model with a (woman) model and birds.
During those years I have tried to express, through the model’s body and my soul, the spirit of stabilization in a situation of survival.
The body of the model, woman and “boy” body altogether, made it possible for me to penetrate her bones, almost into her skeleton.
Her body turned into a metaphor which, like a gentle peel, with one sole touch could break into pieces.
The same peel is what we see from inside out, is what became a place of meeting of inside and outside.
The body sings with letters and words. Therefore I curved calligraphy on it. Sentences taken from songs of TSHESHLAV MILOSH- “Who lives in hell, says there is no hell” – a sentence which represents for me a personal and social notion and mood.
I begun with reliefs which expressed fragments of body, until nothing was left over of it, nothing but a minimal reminder. When I was left without a “body”, I moved to spirit, to the flying.. There, I have examined by the birds-sculptures the ability of the human-being to fly.
During the process, I have discovered that our will to fly concludes in a one big mass, carried on two gentle, fragile legs. Flying for me is maybe the balance between those two opposites.
I added calligraphy on the birds as well,, a calligraphy which describes the will of the human being to fly and his banal disability to do so. Therefore – out of the body serie, I would like to present several reliefs which transfer the process formerly mentioned, and in the center to locate one sculpture that transfers an opposite process – Survival and Flying. Both processes are joined together – surviving and the outcome of it – the will to fly.
